Drive west on Rio Road off Highway 1 for about a half a mile and you'll come to the
Carmel Mission founded in 1770 by Father Serra.

The Mission is open to visitors Sundays from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm and weekdays from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Admission is by donation: adults $2.00, children $1.00 and children under 5 are admitted free.

This is an operating parish. No food, drinks or pets. You are requested to be respectful and to wear appropriate attire.

Drive east on Eighth Street in Carmel for about a half a mile and you'll come to one of the entrances to Mission Trail Nature Preserve.

It's about a 20 minute nature walk to the Carmel Mission.

Mission Trail contains several nature trails, Flanders Mansion and an arboretum. On this walk you'll get to see a variety of native plants.

Visit the Robinson Jeffers Tor House Foundation website where you will find lots of information about one of Carmel's famous poets.

Docent-led tours of the Tor House, Hawk Tower and the old-world gardens are conducted every Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. Tours are limited to a maximum of six people per hour. The tax deductible cost is: $7.00 (adults); $4.00 (college students); and $2.00 (high school students). For safety reasons, children under 12 years of age are not allowed. The house is situated on Carmel Point just to the south of Carmel Village. It faces Scenic Avenue, is bounded by Stewart Way and Ocean View Avenue.Tour reservations should be made in advance through the Foundation office by calling (831) 624-1813.
